The interactions between food, water and energy are of paramount interest to policy, science and the society at large, today and in the upcoming decades. Challenges connected with population increase and food shortages, scarce water and insufficient energy resources demand solutions. The Sustainable Urbanisation Global Initiative (SUGI)/Food-Water-Energy Nexus called for projects to find innovative new solutions to the Food-Water-Energy Nexus challenge with the ultimate goal to increase the access and the quality of life (https://jpi-urbaneurope.eu/calls/sugi/).
International SUGI FWE projects are invited to present their approaches and results. We further invite other contributions on the topics of the Food-Water-Energy Nexus in sustainable urban development. We would like to discuss the potentials and constraints the nexus approach poses and to address further research demands.
